Many properties are weathered on the first floor with tiles or timber cladding. Both of these have their draw backs; tiles can be draughty, they discolour and attract insects and mould growth. Timber cladding requires regular maintenance, often involving the cost of a scaffold.

Modern textured cladding comes in a variety of finishes and colours; it is normally fitted in conjunction with insulation, so it is thermally efficient and practically maintenance free. As a bonus, most forms of modern cladding also have a very good fire rating.
